Revolutionary 10,000-cycle lithium battery from Leclanché sets new standard for energy storage
Leclanché, a Swiss energy storage company, has unveiled a groundbreaking lithium-ion battery. The new Leclanché battery promises a lifespan of up to 10,000 charging cycles. This innovation is called the XN50. Features comprise a niobium-based anode material developed by Echion Technologies, which significantly enhances the battery’s performance and longevity.

The XN50 battery can be fully recharged in just 15 minutes. This makes it ideal for use in electric vehicles (EVs) and large-scale energy storage systems. Compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries, which typically last around 3,000 cycles, the XN50’s extended cycle life reduces the need for frequent replacements, leading to lower maintenance costs and less environmental waste.
The use of niobium in the battery’s anode allows for faster charging and improved safety, as it helps to avoid common issues like overheating and degradation. This makes the XN50 particularly suited for demanding applications that require high efficiency and reliability.
Leclanché’s new battery is expected to play a key role in supporting the transition to cleaner energy by enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of energy storage solutions. The design is for both transportation and grid applications.
