Strong increase of boat owners in India
Meanwhile over 1,000 registered yachts
While the number of registered boat owners rose from 196 to 269 between 2006 and 2007, this year the number exceeded the magical 1,000. The market for privately used boats is still focused in Mumbai. With more than half of all potential customers, the 16 million-strong metropolis is home to the strongest group of buyers for new boats and yachts.
Although this year’s International Boat Show 2013 (MIBS) was canceled at short notice in February, the industry and the market continue to develop positively. The lack of attractive harbors and moorings continues to be the biggest obstacle for the yachting industry. This is again due to a very rough seas and a strong coastal pollution with sulphur.
